Walmart Canada confirmed Tuesday that the company has made “organizational changes” to its Mississauga head office and field management structure, resulting in the loss of 210 positions.

In a statement on Tuesday, the company said the layoffs will impact those in managerial and non-managerial positions.

The company noted that retail stores “will not be affected” by the staff reduction and added that 2,900 jobs have been created this year, most of them at Walmart stores.

“The changes are designed to create a more efficient organizational structure as the company positions itself competitively for the future,” the Walmart Canada statement read.

“It is difficult to say goodbye to colleagues who are affected by this change. We are extremely grateful for their contributions and will ensure that they are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.

According to the statement, those affected by the layoffs will receive “competitive” severance pay and have access to a career counseling service.
